Electron AppStack is free, source-available software. It is not open source: you can use it for free to build and sell your own apps, but you cannot sell or redistribute it as a starter kit.

1. Definitions

  • “Software” means the source code, documentation, images and other files in the Electron AppStack repository (https://github.com/nick-keller/electron-appstack ), including the template in the template/ folder.
  • “Application” means a software product that you build with the Software, and whose main purpose is something other than helping people build software. A desktop app made from the template is an Application.
  • “Competing Product” means a boilerplate, starter kit, template, scaffolding tool, code generator or any similar product meant to help people start or build software projects.

2. What you can do

Subject to the conditions of this license, the copyright holder grants you a free, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:

  1. View, clone, fork and download the Software.
  2. Modify the Software to build your own Applications.
  3. Use the Software to build Applications, including commercial Applications.
  4. Sell, distribute and publish your Applications, in source or compiled form, including their installers, and let your customers use them under your own terms.

3. What you cannot do

You may not:

  1. Sell, license or rent the Software, or any modified version of it, as a template, boilerplate or starter kit.
  2. Publish or distribute the Software, or a repackaged or modified version of it, as a Competing Product, whether for free or for a fee. Renaming it, changing its styling or adding or removing a few features does not make it an Application.
  3. Remove or alter the copyright notice or this license in copies of the Software that you distribute in source form.

Publishing the source code of an Application, or a public fork made to contribute changes back to the Software, is allowed.

4. Notices

If you distribute the Software, or part of it, in source form, you must include this license and the copyright notice above. You do not have to include them in the compiled builds or installers of your Applications.

5. Third-party software

The Software depends on third-party packages that have their own licenses. This license does not cover them, and you are responsible for following their terms.

6. Termination

If you break any term of this license, your rights under it end automatically. If you fix the violation within 30 days of being notified by the copyright holder, your rights are reinstated. Applications you distributed before the termination, in compliance with this license, are not affected.

7. No warranty

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
